This just a quick glimpse of the many service projects we participate in. Please keep an eye on our calendar for upcoming events!
Taste of Lower Merion Event
www.tasteoflm.com
This event benefits both the Lower Merion Township Scholarship Fund and a Better Chance in Lower Merion (ABC House) and includes foods from the area’s top restaurants as well as our very own club! Annually we set up a table of food at this extravagant event and this year our theme is dips. So put your chef’s hats on and pull out your best recipes! The event is typically in late February. Volunteering at the event gives you a free pass to all of the festivities including food sampling, local music groups, and more! Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering for this fun evening!
Inglis House Ice Cream Party
www.inglis.org
Volunteers are needed to help run the sundae bar and serve delicious treats to the residents of this wheelchair community. They all love to socialize and enjoy the volunteers’ company so sit and chat and make a new friend. Email us if you’d like more information about this rewarding project.
Casa Farnese Computer Session
Volunteers assist the elderly in learning the basic uses of a personal computer, including email, web-surfing, and word processing. They meet every other Monday from 6-7pm. Please email us if you are interested!
Project Welcome
During this project volunteers have a one on one conversation with recent immigrants to the United States who are taking ESL courses to learn English. These one hour sessions allow the students to take a break from their regular course work while giving them a chance to practice recognizing and speaking the informal English they are most likely to encounter outside the classroom. This is a great way to get to know people in the city and to learn about another’s experiences, dreams, beliefs, and more. It is a fascinating project.Email us if you would like further information.
PAWS
www.paws.org
The Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) shelters homeless animals, rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife, and empowers people to demonstrate compassion and respect for animals in their daily lives. University City Kiwanis volunteers with the PAWS adoption center on 2nd street helping care for animals and assisting the staff.
Adopt A Room @ Bache Martin
www.phila.k12.pa.us
Volunteers help fix up Bache Martin Elementary/Middle School in the art museum area. Help is needed with everything from painting, to organizing rooms, to gardening. There are a multitude of projects that need to be done. Our group mostly works on the room we’ve adopted with Drexel Circle K painting murals and much more. This project was concluded in Spring of 2008.
